Tennessee Onions Better Than Onion Rings

Tennessee Onions are a Southern side dish of sweet onion slices baked with melted cheese, garlic, and herbs until golden and bubbly.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 to 4 Vidalia sweet onions peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch thick rounds (keep the rings intact)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into 8 even pats
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup Italian blend cheese finely shredded
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese finely shredded
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese finely shredded

Instructions
 

  • Preheat to 350°F with the rack in the center. Spray a 9×13-inch dish with non-stick spray.
  • Peel and slice Vidalia onions into ¼-inch rings.
  • Spread onion slices evenly in the dish.
  • Sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, and oregano.
  • Dot with butter across the top. Top with Italian blend, cheddar, and Parmesan.
  • Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, until bubbly and onions are tender.
  • Cool for 5 minutes, then serve warm.
