Tennessee Onions Better Than Onion Rings
Tennessee Onions are a Southern side dish of sweet onion slices baked with melted cheese, garlic, and herbs until golden and bubbly.
- 3 to 4 Vidalia sweet onions peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch thick rounds (keep the rings intact)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into 8 even pats
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup Italian blend cheese finely shredded
- 1 cup cheddar cheese finely shredded
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese finely shredded
Preheat to 350°F with the rack in the center. Spray a 9×13-inch dish with non-stick spray.
Peel and slice Vidalia onions into ¼-inch rings.
Spread onion slices evenly in the dish.
Sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, and oregano.
Dot with butter across the top. Top with Italian blend, cheddar, and Parmesan.
Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, until bubbly and onions are tender.
Cool for 5 minutes, then serve warm.
