Crispy fries smothered in melted American cheese, caramelized onions, and a homemade tangy-sweet animal style sauce—this copycat recipe delivers bold, comforting In-N-Out flavor right at home.
For the Fries
- 32 oz frozen fries any cut works—shoestring or crinkle are great
For the Animal Style Sauce
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 3 tablespoons sweet relish
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 yellow onion diced
- 6 slices American cheese
Bake fries at 425°F for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway for even crispiness.
Mix mayo, ketchup, mustard, relish, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Chill for 10 minutes to let flavors meld.
Sauté diced onions in butter with salt and pepper over medium heat for 10–12 minutes until golden and soft.
Lay cheese slices over hot fries. Return to warm oven (turned off) for 5 minutes until melted.
Top fries with onions and drizzle with chilled sauce. Serve right away—warm, gooey, and messy!
