In-N-Out Animal Style Fries

Crispy fries smothered in melted American cheese, caramelized onions, and a homemade tangy-sweet animal style sauce—this copycat recipe delivers bold, comforting In-N-Out flavor right at home.

Ingredients
  

For the Fries

  • 32 oz frozen fries any cut works—shoestring or crinkle are great

For the Animal Style Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 3 tablespoons sweet relish
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 yellow onion diced
  • 6 slices American cheese

Instructions
 

  • Bake fries at 425°F for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway for even crispiness.
  • Mix mayo, ketchup, mustard, relish, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Chill for 10 minutes to let flavors meld.
  • Sauté diced onions in butter with salt and pepper over medium heat for 10–12 minutes until golden and soft.
  • Lay cheese slices over hot fries. Return to warm oven (turned off) for 5 minutes until melted.
  • Top fries with onions and drizzle with chilled sauce. Serve right away—warm, gooey, and messy!
