Easy Homemade Cheesy Breadsticks

Homemade Cheesy Breadsticks are soft yeast sticks brushed with garlic butter, topped with melty mozzarella and Parmesan—perfect for dipping or pairing with soup or salad.

Ingredients
  

Dough

  • 1 ½ cups warm water ≈110 °F
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour plus more for kneading
  • 2  tbsp olive oil plus extra for greasing
  • 1  tsp salt

Flavorings & Toppings

  • 1  tsp garlic powder optional
  • 1  tsp dried Italian herbs optional
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella divided
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan
  • 2  tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • Fresh parsley chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions
 

  • Activate Yeast: Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 mins until foamy.
  • Make Dough: Stir in oil, salt, and 3 cups flour. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead: Knead 5–7 mins on floured surface until smooth.
  • First Rise: Place in oiled bowl, cover, and rise 30 mins or until doubled.
  • Shape Sticks: Preheat oven to 400°F. Divide dough into 8–12 sticks, roll, and place on greased tray.
  • Cheese & Bake: Press in half the mozzarella and herbs. Bake 10–12 mins until golden.
  • Butter & Top: Brush with melted butter, sprinkle remaining cheeses.
  • Garnish: Add parsley if desired. Serve warm.
