Crispy Mozzarella Stick Onion Rings
Crispy on the outside, gooey in the middle—these Mozzarella Stick Onion Rings combine the best of both worlds. Each golden ring is filled with melty cheese and served hot with marinara dipping sauce.
Main:
- 2 large white onions
- 3 slices mozzarella cheese
Breading:
- 250 g plain flour
- 5 large eggs
- 230 g breadcrumbs
Frying:
- Vegetable oil enough for deep frying
- Serving:
- Marinara sauce for dipping
Cut onions into 1 cm rings and separate. Nest a smaller ring inside a larger one. Fill the gap with mozzarella strips. Freeze on a tray for 1 hour.
Set up three bowls: flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs. Remove frozen rings.
Coat each ring in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, repeat egg and breadcrumb step. Freeze again until ready to fry.
Heat oil to 175°C. Fry rings in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden. Drain on paper towels.
Serve hot with marinara sauce. Enjoy crispy shells with gooey cheese centers.
