Crispy Cheesy Mozzarella Onion Rings
Cheesy Mozzarella Onion Rings are thick onion slices stuffed with melty mozzarella, coated in a light batter and crunchy panko, then fried until golden and crisp.
- 2 large yellow onions sliced into thick rings
- 8 mozzarella cheese sticks cut to fit
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp fine salt
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1½ cups panko bread crumbs
- Cooking oil for frying
- Wooden toothpicks
Stuff mozzarella between paired onion rings and secure with toothpicks.
Mix flour, baking powder, and salt, then coat onion rings lightly.
Whisk milk and egg, combine with remaining flour mix to form batter.
Dip rings in batter, then coat fully with panko breadcrumbs.
Fry in 350°F oil until golden and crisp on both sides.
Drain, remove toothpicks, and serve hot with dipping sauce.
