Creamed Cabbage And Ground Beef Casserole

A hearty and comforting Creamed Cabbage and Ground Beef Casserole made with savory ground beef, tender cabbage, and a creamy cheese sauce. Simple, delicious, and perfect for an easy weeknight meal!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cabbage
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup chicken or beef broth
  • 2 tsps butter
  • 2 tsps all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper
  • ½ tsps dried thyme
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Ingredients: Shred the cabbage, chop the onion, and grate the cheese. Measure all ingredients for easy cooking.
  • Cook the Ground Beef: Brown the beef in a skillet over medium heat (5–7 minutes). Add onion and garlic, cook until soft (3 minutes), then season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Set aside.
  • Sauté the Cabbage: In the same skillet, melt 1 tbsp butter. Add cabbage, cook until softened (5 minutes), then stir in thyme and salt. Remove from heat.
  • Make the Sauce: Melt 1 tbsp butter in a saucepan. Whisk in flour, cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in broth and heavy cream, stirring until thick (3 minutes). Add half the cheese, stir until melted.
  • Assemble & Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a greased baking dish, layer half the cabbage, then the beef. Pour sauce over the top, sprinkle with remaining cheese and breadcrumbs. Bake for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
