Churros Poppers

Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and coated with a cinnamon-sugar mixture, they are irresistible!

Ingredients

For the coating:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the dough:

  • 2 ½ tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

Other:

  • Oil for frying
  • Chocolate sauce for dipping optional

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl or a brown paper bag, mix ½ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Heat about 2 ½ inches of oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 ½ tablespoons sugar, salt, and vegetable oil.
  • Bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Stir in the flour until a dough forms.
  • Let the dough cool slightly. Scoop and roll it into small balls, about the size of walnuts.
  • Carefully place 3-4 dough balls into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Fry for 2-3 minutes, turning until golden brown.
  • Remove fried poppers with a slotted spoon and immediately toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
  • Transfer to a plate and repeat with remaining dough. Serve warm and enjoy with chocolate sauce, if desired!
