Cheesy Mozzarella Onion Rings

Thick-cut onion rings stuffed with mozzarella cheese, coated in seasoned batter and panko, then fried to golden perfection—a cheesy, crunchy treat perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large onion thick-sliced into rings
  • 8 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 cups cooking oil
  • Toothpicks for securing

Instructions
 

  • Nest a smaller onion ring inside a larger one. Fill the gap with sliced mozzarella and secure with a toothpick.
  • Heat oil to 350°F. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Dredge rings in flour mix; set aside.
  • Whisk milk and egg. Dip rings into batter, then coat with Panko. Return to rack.
  • Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crisp. Don’t overcook—cheese may ooze.
  • Drain on paper towels. Remove toothpicks. Serve warm with marinara or aioli.
