Cheesy Mozzarella Onion Rings
Thick-cut onion rings stuffed with mozzarella cheese, coated in seasoned batter and panko, then fried to golden perfection—a cheesy, crunchy treat perfect for gatherings.
- 1 large onion thick-sliced into rings
- 8 mozzarella cheese sticks
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp fine salt
- 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
- 2 cups cooking oil
- Toothpicks for securing
Nest a smaller onion ring inside a larger one. Fill the gap with sliced mozzarella and secure with a toothpick.
Heat oil to 350°F. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Dredge rings in flour mix; set aside.
Whisk milk and egg. Dip rings into batter, then coat with Panko. Return to rack.
Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crisp. Don’t overcook—cheese may ooze.
Drain on paper towels. Remove toothpicks. Serve warm with marinara or aioli.
