Air Fried Apple Wedges With Caramel Whipped Cream Dipping Sauce

These air-fried apple wedges are crispy on the outside, tender inside, coated in cinnamon and sugar, and paired with a smooth caramel whipped cream dip. A quick, healthier alternative to fried apples, perfect for a snack or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 4 to 5 tart apples Granny Smith or Pink Lady
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Wondra flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • ½ cup sugar
  • cup cinnamon
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip (or 1 cup whipping cream with 1/2 cup sugar, whipped until stiff)
  • 1 cup caramel sauce store-bought or homemade

Instructions

  • Heat vegetable oil in a fry pan or deep fryer over medium heat. Test with a small piece of bread—if it browns in 60 seconds, the oil is ready.
  • Mix buttermilk and sugar in a medium bowl. Peel and slice the apples into wedges and add them to the buttermilk mixture to prevent browning. Let them soak for a few minutes.
  • Spread Wondra flour in a shallow dish. Coat each apple wedge evenly with the flour to ensure a crispy crust when fried.
  • Once the oil is heated, carefully add the apple wedges in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Transfer to a paper towel-lined tray to absorb excess oil.
  • While still hot, sprinkle the apple wedges with the cinnamon and sugar mixture to coat them evenly.
  • Blend cream cheese and Cool Whip (or whipped cream mixture with sugar) in a bowl until smooth. Stir in caramel sauce to create a creamy dip. Drizzle extra caramel over the top for added richness.
  • Serve the apple wedges with the caramel whipped cream dip. Drizzle extra caramel sauce on the dip for a final touch and enjoy!
