Air Fried Apple Wedges With Caramel Whipped Cream Dipping Sauce
These air-fried apple wedges are crispy on the outside, tender inside, coated in cinnamon and sugar, and paired with a smooth caramel whipped cream dip. A quick, healthier alternative to fried apples, perfect for a snack or dessert.
- 4 to 5 tart apples Granny Smith or Pink Lady
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup Wondra flour
- Vegetable oil for frying
- ½ cup sugar
- ⅛ cup cinnamon
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 8 ounces Cool Whip (or 1 cup whipping cream with 1/2 cup sugar, whipped until stiff)
- 1 cup caramel sauce store-bought or homemade
Heat vegetable oil in a fry pan or deep fryer over medium heat. Test with a small piece of bread—if it browns in 60 seconds, the oil is ready.
Mix buttermilk and sugar in a medium bowl. Peel and slice the apples into wedges and add them to the buttermilk mixture to prevent browning. Let them soak for a few minutes.
Spread Wondra flour in a shallow dish. Coat each apple wedge evenly with the flour to ensure a crispy crust when fried.
Once the oil is heated, carefully add the apple wedges in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Transfer to a paper towel-lined tray to absorb excess oil.
While still hot, sprinkle the apple wedges with the cinnamon and sugar mixture to coat them evenly.
Blend cream cheese and Cool Whip (or whipped cream mixture with sugar) in a bowl until smooth. Stir in caramel sauce to create a creamy dip. Drizzle extra caramel over the top for added richness.
Serve the apple wedges with the caramel whipped cream dip. Drizzle extra caramel sauce on the dip for a final touch and enjoy!
